Catechism Class ‘5th-8th’ Grades
Our congregation helps parents teach their children about the love of God and his will for our life by offering catechism class. Catechism class is ordinarily offered to those who are beginning 5th grade and continues to the end of their 8th grade year. When the student has faithfully completed this course of study the student is eligible for confirmation and communicant membership at St. Matthew’s. This course is offered during the school year and is held on Wednesdays from 3:45pm-5:30pm.
Our course of study covers Martin Luther’s Small Catechism using the Faith Foundations Workbooks. Pastor Kuschel uses a number of different teaching tools to impress the truths of God’s Word upon the children including: PowerPoint presentations, note taking, practical applications, take home worksheets, fun reviews, quizzes, and tests are all key components of the Catechism class. The students are expected to memorize the 6 main parts of Christian teaching as contained in Luther’s Catechism as well as numerous passages of the Bible which illustrate and form the basis for the teachings contained in the Catechism. Our goal is not only to teach your children about God, but to show them the love of Christ Jesus and to prepare them to live a life of gratitude and praise to Christ Jesus in this life and the next.
‘Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.’ Proverbs 22:6.
